Hostas are like friends – the forever, no matter what, always there for you kind of friend.

The Benefits of Hostas
- Hostas grow in complete shade! This is untrue for many plants thus a huge bonus!
- Large amount of varieties available in various colours and sizes.
- Have a trouble spot where nothing will grow? Plant a hosta.
- Planted for their beautiful leaves, not their blooms.
- Almost no maintenance required.
- Take tons of abuse.
- Divide easily.
Leaves
The hosta leaves are gorgeous and the glory of the plant. The leaves vary according to which variety you buy; leaves can be: light green or dark green, striped or solid, round tipped or pointy. There’s definitely a hosta for you! The bloom that towers from the hosta in the autumn is pretty enough; the bloom time however is short, and not the main attraction of the plant. When purchasing a hosta for your garden, it is the effect of the leaf you are looking at versus the bloom.

No Maintenance
Promise, the only maintenance with the hosta, is to cut the whole plant down to ground level at the end of autumn or after the first frost. The browning and drooping of the plant will be your cue to get the shears and call it a season. The hosta looks beautiful from mid-May and survives all the way until first frost.

Why Stop at One
- Dividing a hosta is not necessary, but if you want free plants – it couldn’t be easier.
- Divide either in spring or fall.
- Once the plant has matured, you can shovel around the plant – trying not to hit too many roots.
- The whole plant can be taken out and then divided, or remove only the portion of the plant from the ground for replanting.
- A plant can be divided into thirds or quarters making sharing with friends easy.
- Although easy to divide, it never overtakes and behaves in an invasive manner.
