While writing a blog post on the movie Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, I looked up the word “distractions” on an online thesaurus. Before I could settle on an appropriate synonym, I was stunned by the two suggested choices the site gave me.

Here’s what I mean. The screenshot below shows the two suggestions given as I finished typing the word “distractions“. The two choices were: I could pick “distractions” or I could pick “facts uttered by Donald Trump”.

I couldn’t make this stuff up! See the screenshot below, and try it out for yourself:

What?! It’s telling me there are only two possible distractions in the world! Based on this thesaurus, one possibility is (A) plain old distractions; distractions by millions of circumstances worldwide are just “distractions”. The billions of distractions created by millions of people shall remain anonymous. Hey! I’ve had to distract my toddler when they were getting too close to the cookie jar, the oven, or about to cry; I didn’t get my own shout out on the word. And then there’s the second category of distractions (B) “facts uttered by Donald Trump”. What about huge distractions such as: social media, marketing, and entertainment? I’d say those were pretty big distractions. Crickets.

Some would say top distractions are:

  1. Television
  2. Social Media
  3. Our Phones

Ah, the selfies…

From Bad to Worse

To add insult to injury the same site gave me a synonym! Check this screenshot out:

This online reference site has jumped-the-shark! “Trumpaganda”!?? Trumpaganda is a word? A synonym? A synonym for distraction!?! This website pretends to be a source for English vocabulary?!? What is the intended demographic for online thesauruses (other than me)? Probably kids. This is deeply disturbing stuff. Boy oh boy fellow parents, we have a big job on our hands.

On a lighter note
