Family Game: Saboteur

Teams

Saboteur is a family game which plays out differently each time it’s played. Teams are randomly selected by a shuffle of the cards. Sometimes you end up with a card that indicates for you to be on the ‘good guy’ team and play as a miner trying to find the golden nugget. Other times, you end up with a card that shows you have to be a Saboteur and attempt to sabotage the miners’ efforts.

Goal of the Game:

Find the Golden Nugget Card

Miners build paths trying to get to the gold card while Saboteurs try to stop them!

Strategy

An Evening of Fun

Each game lasts 30-40 minutes, therefore playing a few rounds of the game per evening is ideal. The more games you play, the better your chances of playing various roles and having different teammates throughout the evening.

The first mining card is placed to start the quest to find the gold.

Seven rows of cards are allowed between the start card and the reveal.

In the 5th row, this player is working to get to the left mine.

This player moves against the previous player’s move by trying to sway other players towards the card on the right. Is he a saboteur or a miner? Have you figured it out?

It’s a game of strategy, reading people’s behaviours, and practicing your own stealthiness! In some rounds, you end up knowing exactly what’s going on in the game and play with confidence. In other games, you are completely lost and have no idea who is on your team and what you should do or not do. Often times, I have convinced myself I know who is playing which role and play with false confidence only to find out at the end of the game I was helping out the opposite team the whole time! It’s a game you can play with as much or as little thought you want to put into it. Just saying, sometimes you can overthink it too!

Hope you have a

fun-filled family night!
